Re: full library?

2012-11-27 Thread Dan Olson
The web interface must have improved, because it does clarify which is
import/export
vs storage slot. The confusing thing is it will let you configure a partition
of
size X as long as you have the room, but the slots aren't actually usable until
empty terapacks are present in those chambers. I'm surprised there isn't some
counter at least on the web interface that shows available vs absent slots.

Strange dirmc

2012-11-27 Thread Robert Ouzen
Hi to all
I have a nodename who backup the directory to another management class in my
case mgeducation

I have on my inclexcl file this statement: include /export/home/*mglaw

I tried in the dsm.sys to put dirmc mglaw but still the directory is written to
mgeducation (the data is written to mglaw correctly)

I of course after any change I stop the dsmcad and reload it but the same !

I double check the management and the backup copygroup they point to the
correct storage DD_LAW (Activate too)

All my another clients works fine !

My Tsm Server version 6.3.2.0 and client version 6.1.0

With the 6 figure price tag, is the TSM for DB Client that you refer to the

Do you have more than one SERVERNAME stanza in dsm.sys? Are you sure that the
DIRMC option is in the correct stanza? Is it possible that DIRMC is being
overridden by a client option set?

Try this test, to see what DIRMC value is in effect. From the command line,
issue this command:

   dsmc query option dirmc

What does it show?

You might need to specify the correct SERVERNAME stanza:

   dsmc query option dirmc -servername=stanza_name

where stanza_name is the SERVERNAME stanza in your dsm.sys file.

Re: netezza nzbackup connector for TSM

2012-11-27 Thread Tailor, Mahesh C.
What I have been told by the IBM partner is that in addition to the TSM
connector that is built into the product, we would need to purchase licenses
for the other products -- BA client and TSM for DB. Yes, of the two TSM for DB
is the majority of the cost. I also questioned the need for the TSM for DB
client as there is no "standard" -- Oracle, DB2, etc. -- database on the
Netezza and have not received a definitive answer.

Thanks.

Re: Strange dirmc

2012-11-27 Thread Andrew Raibeck
Robert,

Have you checked the dsmerror.log in case there is some message there that
hints why the wrong management class is used for directories?

Can you reproduce this with the command line client? Create a new
directory, such as /home/robert/newdir. Add a file or two. Then back it up,
e.g.:

   dsmc i /home/robert/newdir/ -subdir=yes

Then query the directory backup:

   dsmc q ba /home/robert/newdir -dirsonly

Does it show the wrong management class? Check dsmerror.log. Are there any
messages there?

Also run:

   dsmc q mg -detail

And examine the MGLAW management class. What does it show?

Re: netezza nzbackup connector for TSM

One thing about IBM partners: they're just as likely to understand licensing as
anyone IBM PVU licenses are hellish. As long as there is no real TDPO for
... or BA client running on the box, you don't have to buy licenses.

TSM cmd after library has been defined again..

2012-11-27 Thread Swartz, Jerome
Hi All,

Haven't touched TSM in a while. Needed to delete the paths, drives and library.

I just defined those again and there is a command that I need to run so that
TSM can see the tapes in the library.

Just can't get to it! Q libv doesn't return any results..

Thanks in advance!

Jerome

First check in your scratch tapes:

checkin libv search=y checkl=b status=scr

Then your private tapes (storage pool, DB backup, export, etc.):

checkin libv search=y checkl=b status=priv

Make sure to do it in this order, or all your scratch tapes will become private.

You need to run "checkin libvol" twice, first for scratch tapes, and
then for privates.

Re: netezza nzbackup connector for TSM

There is a "TSM for Data Bases/Oracle" and a "TSM for Data Bases/MSSQL".
If you aren't installing that code (because you don't have either Oracle or

What I have been told by the IBM partner is that in addition to the TSM
connector that is built into the product, we would need to purchase licenses
for the other products -- BA client and TSM for DB. Yes, of the two TSM for DB
is the majority of the cost. I also questioned the need for the TSM for DB

With the 6 figure price tag, is the TSM for DB Client that you refer to the

For compression:

q actlog begindate=today-ndays search=ane4968

Non-zero values mean the client is compressing.

Fellow TSM Admins,

We are in the process of bringing VTLs into our TSM Environment. In order to
take full advantage of deduplication features on the VTL we need to go after
the clients that are performing client based encryption and compression. With
that in mind, does anyone know an easy way to tell which clients are using
these features?

Re: TSM cmd after library has been defined again..

First check in your scratch tapes:

checkin libv search=y checkl=b status=scr

Then your private tapes (storage pool, DB backup, export, etc.):

checkin libv search=y checkl=b status=priv

Make sure to do it in this order, or all your scratch tapes will become
private.

hsm for windows and include / exclude

2012-11-27 Thread Lee, Gary
Anyone out there playing with hsm for windows, are there any of the include or
exclude statements useable in the dsm.opt?

We are trying to implement a university wide policy of moving all files not
accessed in A specified time to tsm storage.
I would like to automate this as much as possible. Our backups are set with a
default set of includes and excludes, so that our schedules use the standard
incremental command.

I want to try and create something similar for hsm.

Any help and insites are appreciated.

Re: TSM cmd after library has been defined again..

2012-11-27 Thread Bob Levad
Jerome,

If your cleaning tapes are known to TSM, you'll need to check them back in also
with the number of cleanings remaining.

Q libv CL* f=d should show number of cleanings remaining before you drop
the library.

checkin libv search=y stat=clean checkl=bar clean=<# remaining> will
check in your media.

You may want to eject and insert them individually if they have a different
number of cleanings remaining on each.

It's usually best to let the library handle the cleanings if you can keep TSM
out of it.

Robert,

Have you checked the dsmerror.log in case there is some message there that
hints why the wrong management class is used for directories?

Can you reproduce this with the command line client? Create a new directory,
such as /home/robert/newdir. Add a file or two. Then back it up,
e.g.:

   dsmc i /home/robert/newdir/ -subdir=yes

Then query the directory backup:

   dsmc q ba /home/robert/newdir -dirsonly

Does it show the wrong management class? Check dsmerror.log. Are there any
messages there?

Also run:

   dsmc q mg -detail

And examine the MGLAW management class. What does it show?
