Hello,
This isn't a TSM question just more of a reintroduction. A year ago I was let
go from saic when my wife was transferred to Dallas. Although we all know it's
possible to manage the system remotely, and knowing they have offices in Plano,
I expected to work from here, especially since the DR site is here, but that
wasn't to be so I've been out of TSM work since then.
I recently rejoined the list to keep in touch and somewhat up to date,   While
I've had a few calls unfortunately all have unded up in me being "over
qualified" as they say. I would have preferred an offer and given an
opportunity to make the decision to accept no matter what the work or pay but
none have worked out that way unfortunately.
While driving Zamboni's for 15 years helped me land work in Allen, it isn't
quite the same, nonetheless it helps pay bills.
Hope you guys are all well, I see many of the same names, Richard, Andrew, Bill
and others so I'm glad to see the community is hanging together.

Quite so. The 3494 has historically benefitted from having an embedded library
manager, unlike "SCSI" libraries, and can do a lot without the need for a TSM
Library Manager and that added complexity.

Connectivity to 1120 drives is fibre channel

This strange config grew because I have just finished converting all our
netbackup environment to tsm. This offsite library, lib2, is the old netbackup
library, and server tsm2 is an old netbackup server.

Yep, odd setup, I just inherrited it.
I would eventually like to replace lib1 with a virtual tape, but until then,
this is what it is.

OK, so TSM2 and lib2 are both offsite? You're implying that but it's not
100% clear.

I'm not particularly familliar with TS1120's are these SCSI or FC attach?

What connectivity is available between the 2 sites?

Be aware that altering a client schedule will remove all historical
events from the DB.

Meaning when you perform an update to a client schedule and query the
past status for a particular client you will get the infamous "no match

I'm trying to figure out to enable and disable client
schedules from the command line. I've looked over the online help and
elsewhere but no luck.

If the command was for an admin sched I would do "update
sched something type=admin active=yes/no" . But I don't see a similar
command for client schedules.

Policy Option Sets relation to Domains

2011-12-15 Thread Vandeventer, Harold [BS]
I created a new Domain Name on a TSM6.2.3 server, no problem.

I then assumed (that's bad) that deleting Option Sets within that domain would
be isolated to that domain.

However, the Option sets were removed from the "server", not just that domain.

Is that normal?

I see that Mgmt Classes are unique to the Domain and would think that Option
sets would also be unique to the Domain.

I've recreated them, but curious if this is normal or a bug in 6.2.3?

The "Parts of a Policy" in the Admin Guide manual illustrates what elements
constitute a Policy Domain, which is involved in the governance of data. The
mechanical elements of data handling and the housing of client options are
external to that, as they are not specifically related to enterprise policies.

Hi Harold,

Client Options Sets are server-wide and not related to Policy Domains. It has
always been like that. It's'not a bug.

When you define (or delete) a Client Options Set, there is no référence to a
Policy Domain.

Thanks to everyone for the quick replies.

I'd never worked in a new domain setting. Did the stupid and didn't read the
manual first.

Fortunately, on this server, all the nodes were using one option set that is
common across all our TSMs; thus easy to recreate.

Harold,

After recreating the optionset, remember to update the nodes to use it.
When you deleted it, the server implicitly updated the nodes to not use any
optionset.

2011-12-15 Thread Steven Langdale
Right I get it.

I assume you are wanting to do this so you can offsite your data
electronically rather than manually?

I know this is going a bit OT, but what are your options as far as moving
TSM2 offsite to where the library is? does it have many/any clients that
need it where it is?

Also, what experience do you have with TSM server to serve stuff i.e. using
a remote library manager AND what experience with 3494 libs?

Thanks

Steven
