Hi Ruben, are you sure that Profilic adapter does not freeze? Do you have oscilloscope or logic analyzer to look at RxD on PIC? I assume that you properly blocked all power pins and RESET on PIC. 16F887 has ICD so I would try to run debugger using MPLAB and ASM code from SDCC.
