Because GCC for AVR is way better than sdcc for AVR. If you can use gcc for 8051 and PIC12/16/18 and have good result, you can abandon sdcc as well for 8051 and PIC12/16/18. Unfortunately there are no gcc for 8051 and PIC12/16/18 probably due to the limitation of the two architecture.
