Hi,

I've managed to get my PIC18F4550 board working and I've played around
with SDCC. Actually it was no problem, so thanks to however has
contributed to SDCC.
Previously I've used it for 68HC08 and that was a problem free
experience too. Great job boys and girls.

I've been keeping eye on this list and a couple of times 'disable
extended instruction set' has been mentioned in connection with
PIC18Fxxx.

I've had no problems with the things I've tested (function calls,
global/local vars, function calls, interrupts, uart library) so can
someone throw some light on this issue.

What does it mean, extended instruction set? Extended compared to what,
PIC16?

Does 18F4550 have extended instruction set?

Do I need to disable the extended instructions set?

Is the SDCC support for PIC 18 series basically just an artefact of the
support for PIC 16 series or does the compiler take advatage of the
supposedly more C friendly architecture of the 18 series?

While I'm an old hand in microcontrollers and C I'm new to PIC and SDCC
so I would appreciate any insight on these matters.

br Kusti
