Hello, I just released PCSC Lite with complete documentation under the Middleware section of the site. It is VERY EASY to install and just provides a winscard PC/SC API reader abstraction. It is intended for embedded applications and applications can be cross-compiled over to Windows and the PCSC full version. It sits in under 20k library size and can even be smaller if statically linked to a specific reader driver. I also put a PDF file in the distribution with an accurate API listing. I will be releasing a Macintosh PPC/G3 PC/SC Lite in the next month.
