Hi,

Just wanted to tell everyone that there is a new release of PC/SC due by
Monday or Tuesday of next week. New features include:

ReaderFactory - responsible for establishing reader context and handling
events. This cleans up the code in SCardComm. It also adds a great deal
of stability to the resource manager.

American Biometrics BioMouse Plus PC/SC driver - this driver will utilize
the smartcard reader only. A separate API is provided for the biometric
fingerprint scan.

A more filled in C-API. The Windows style API is being more filled in and
used more widely in test applications. Plus compiling with gcc drops the
exe size from 2meg to about 12k.

A benchmark utility. This will do many block read and write transfers,
powers, resets, etc and time them and give an accurate timing mechanism
for looking at other readers relatively. I have the benchmark results and
they are quite surprising.

A command line directory browser.

And finally, we should begin to see early versions of XCard for PC/SC by
next week. A real early version will probably be shown at Card Tech. It
is written in QT and has a really nice interface ( much nicer than the old
XCard )

Bug fixes in SCardComm
 - Not returning the ActiveProtocol.
 - Not handling shared/exclusive modes.

Bug fixes in Transmit
 - Fixed structure array passing.
 - etc. etc.

I'll keep you posted when it is all available. Hopefully I'll see some of
you at Card Tech next week #1242.

Thanks
Dave
