I will be releasing a short version of the PC/SC Resource Manager this week. 
If your reader follows the PC/SC hardware specification ( See section 3 of the
PC/SC documentation ) - it will work under Linux by default.  Otherwise you have
to write an IFD_Handler interface in order to make it work.  Some readers are
not fully PC/SC compliant - those will need IFD_Handlers.  Compliant and
compatible are two distince words.  Compliant is on the hardware level and
compatible means it will work with a certain driver.  Again the goal here is to
have smartcard readers that act like floppy drives.  ( You don't need a driver
to talk to a floppy drive - they all talk the same )
