I asked him in the SL forum: http://scientificlinuxforum.org/index.php?showtopic=3463 It turned out that the latest ffmpeg (1.1.5) in the LinuxTECH repo does not cause the reported crash. So, what you could have done was to run 'yum update'. Akemi
