I agree that it would be useful if people could configure such things, and
cgit does have handles to do that per-repository; however, our current
infrastructure has no means to pull them.
Meanwhile, you could mention in your documentation that the instructions are
provided for cloned repositories rather than cgit snapshots; that would help,
anyway, in cases when people get such snapshots from independent git mirrors.
