However looking at it very briefly I see that it runs as a continuously running daemon in order to maintain persistent connection to IRC (to avoid creating join/part noise). Which means it would need some work forever to maintain the IRC account logins and the running daemon and such. I know that the Emacs group already has something that does this running. It might already be the same irker daemon or it might be something different. But it probably would make more sense to understand what they have already running now and see if it can be expanded to poke.
