looks like a dns problem. cvs.sv.gnu.org resolves to 208.118.235.201 from both
ns1.gnu.org and ns3.gnu.org, which is also what vcs0 resolves to. whereas the
current vcs.sv.gnu.org resolves to 208.118.235.72.
incidentally, ns2.gnu.org did not respond. something for the fsf...
