As I've been indicated by Beuc, with Bazaar the required setup is client-side
(plus cia.vc registration). Sorry for bothering.
For the benefit of those who found this via google:
apt-get install cia-clients
echo "cia_project = GNU GRUB" >> .bzr/branch/branch.conf
that's all client-side setup.
