Do you know why this happens?  Is there some significance to the `manual'
subdirectory?

reference (in addition to `emacs/').

Also, as already wrote on Wed, 03 Aug 2005 20:21:35 +0400,

CVS_RSH=ssh cvs -q -z3 \
- -d:ext:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvsroot/emacs co manual

finishes normally, and creates `manual' directory with no data file
(only `CVS' directory with internal files).
