Because of its stability, power, ease of use, etc. it is the recommended frontend to giFT. It is written in C and uses gettext for i18n. This project started late in the year 2001, so there have been a number of releases. It will always be Free software. The project is currently hosted on sourceforge, but their increasing use of non-free software and increasingly bad service have made us look for better alternatives.
