Freenode is the GNU project's official IRC > network; hence, it makes sense to have the channel there... Unless I'm missing something, in general the merits of the sites and such don't come after GNU recommendations but rather the other way; the GNU recommendations come after a proper evaluation of the sites and such, and their alternatives; of course, the situation may, and does change. For this specific case, it follows than it's just convenient to have all the IRC channels in the same IRC network, but this convenience shouldn't be given more importance over other issues like user's privacy. The fact Freenode is currently the official GNU IRC network don't means we can ignore its problems. > I think the real qualm you have is with freenode being the official > GNU network. We're missing the point here. I'm going to suggest a change for the official GNU IRC network, but that's an issue for *another* thread. Just as a note, experience has convinced me than material which regards person's attitude or opinion *rather than* the topic itself is irrelevant and a hindrance to the resolution of the real issue. I always enjoy a kind chat about my opinions themselves but we should distinguish and keep them separate. >> If we move #savannah to GNU there would be people >> who couldn't access to #savannah at all. > Who, just wondering? Bear in mind, Freenode does allow tor if you > connect to their tor hidden node. I think this one has been clarified by Ted Smith. > Just curious, are you using TOR? Yes, I'm running a inner relay and I sometimes also connect to services by Tor, as need by the specific case of access. For IRC I currently use a direct connection. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (GNU/Linux) iEYEAREIAAYFAk1vA60ACgkQZ4DA0TLic4gurACfWIhOtMDEX7KWMoSyMIdmrKjq +6kAn35/r8yEirWZ9UvLq9hBRuQXRwlZ =cYA6 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
