Hi. In my case I use a sealed PC, and I cannot change its hardware.
So anything about this issue? Do I need to provide more info? Surely I

do that.
I found a message on this list from February describing a patch to SANE
1.0.25. If your copy of SANE includes this patch, you might try
including SANE_USB_WORKAROUND=1 in your environment and see if that
fixes your problem.
As for me, I picked up one of these off of eBay:
http://www.sonnettech.com/product/allegro_express_usb.html
It combines an NEC USB 2.0 PCI controller chip with a TI PCI
Express-to-PCI bridge. Similar products (possibly with a different
bridge chip) should work as well.
It arrived today. I popped it in, moved the scanner over to it, and did
a few scans with XSANE at different resolutions and color depths. No
failures at all. For only $16 shipped, I'm willing to call this problem
sorted. :-)
