I assume sane-backends has been upgraded from the version I twice helped you patch previously. If so, you will likely need to replace sane-backends again. Fortunately, S1100 support has been added to our development version, so no patch is needed now. Maybe you can use Rolf's ppa with this command: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:rolfbensch/sane-git
