Hi Tammo, your scanner is fully supported by recent development version 1.0.25 (http://www.sane-project.org/lists/sane-backends-cvs.html#S-PIXMA).
Please install Sane from git as described in README.linux or here: http://www.sane-project.org/README.linux.
