Hi. I'm experiencing a problem that I had never experienced before--and don't
know if it happened through an update or if I fat-fingered something.

I use mostly XSane as the front end, running on Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic. My scanner
is a HP 3970. The printer is a Brother HL 5240. My output suddenly began
being shrunk about 1 inch in both multipage and in copy. I installed flegita,
and that didn't help matters. I installed gscan2pdf, and that worked the
same... no joy.

I reinstalled all 3 and same results.

I completely UNINSTALLED all three (I think that this also uninstalled Sane.)
and only reinstalled XSane and gscan2pdf. Now the copy function of XSane is
about right, but the multipage is still shrinking my pdfs about an inch all
around. Gscan2pdf shrinks it about 1.5 inches--it's worse. That's the best
result, which is using manual with offsets of 0 and 0.

I've tried scanimage from the terminal with various parameters found in
different places, and it's unworkable. I've gotten images that were 24 inches
in the long dimension.

My paper size is 8.5 x 11.

It seems that Sane is probably the culprit since all the front ends are giving
me the shrinkage; however, it's possible in my mind that XSane adjusts some
parameter that gscan2pdf might grab to use. (??)

Any help is appreciated. I get the daily digest so this might stretch out
some.

THANKS!!!

Keith
