Today's log.
I manually deleted the printer from both System Preferences and
/Library/Printers, then tried again. No actual change.
Is there something else I could try?

Not sure.
Canon printer SW may have locked the USB port.
Could you ty to disable printing at least for a test ?

Rebooted, run as root. Log reads indentical.
regarding allan's question: do canon's printer drivers count as "software"? If
so, yes....but I really see no means of uninstalling them.
