Thanks for the advice. I edited dll.conf & commented out epson, and added in 'epkowa', which some forums/emails mentioned worked with their Epson 3170, and rebooted. 'sudo scanimage -L' tells me no scanners were identified. 'sudo sane-finder-scanner' on the other hand tells me "found USB scanner (vendor=0x04b8 [EPSON], product=0x0116 [EPSON Scanner]) at libusb:001:006" Trying 'scanimage --device-name='epson:libusb:001:006' --mode='Binary' --source='Flatbed' > image.pnm' just results in a an empty file. -- gwern
