the samsung scx-4200 works with the xerox mfp backend, i suspect that this driver will work for other samsung's too. Perhaps it would be wise to make it the default (samsung's proprietary driver performs ugly hacks .. so as long as users can install that one if this fails...) then more feedback should result. At the present time there is little on google / anywhere on using a open source scanning driver (i already use splix and thats now in ubuntu).
I hope that the xerox mfs backend can be turned on for samsung scanners .. that are out on the market atm. (it just worked for tm ^^). Yes i know there are problems with this... but...
