hi -- i've been using sane with my epson "perfection v500" scanner with great success for run-of-the-mill scanning/copying duty, but i'm finally getting ready to try scanning some of the stacks of old photos that were part of the reason for getting a photo-quality scanner in the first place.
i suspect like many people here, i'd rather not have to boot windows if i don't have to, but if the quality results would be better or the process much easier, i'll bite that bullet for a day or three. so: can anyone comment on the relative end quality of photo scans made using sane vs. using windows software from epson? bear in mind that i'm not a practiced gimp user at all, so if the linux vs. windows results will be comparable, but easier for a scanning neophyte to attain under windows, i may go that route in any case... thanks, paul =--------------------- paul fox, pgf at foxharp.boston.ma.us (arlington, ma, where it's 64.8 degrees)
