I'm a Linux newbie and I have an HP 3500c usb scanner which gave me the subject error constantly. I can't tell you how many hours I've wasted trying to get this scanner to work. If you Google the subject text a lot of other people have had the same error.
Fortunately I stumbled across the answer to my problem. I have Debian Etch installed and while I was in Users and Groups, I stumbled across the "User Privileges" "use scanners" check box. Well, you can imagine my thrill after checking that box, logging off and back on and being able to push the scan button on the Xscan front end and have it work. It's kind of like getting a hole-in-one after 17 consecutive double-bogies. <mailto:hbestes at gmail.com> hbestes at gmail.com -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
