I'm not for Ubuntu, but for SuSE, I simply tweaked /etc/udev/rules.d/50-udev-default.rules # libusb device access SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ACTION=="add", ENV{DEVTYPE}=="usb_device", NAME="bus/usb/$env{BUSNUM}/$env{DEVNUM}", MODE="0666" something similar should be possible for Ubuntu too. HTH Gerhard
