try the man page for the backend: man sane-sm3600 it mentions setting a debug var. try something like this: SANE_DEBUG_SM3600=5 scanimage > foo.pnm 2 > sm3600.log then look thru sm3600.log for hints, or if its small enough, post it here. allan -- "The truth is an offense, but not a sin"
