[sane-devel] HP Scanner 7400C

I have installed Mandrake Linux 9.2 on a computer. Attached to it 
is a HP 7400C scanner on the USB interface. Linux and XSane are 
able to recognise and configure this scanner. I believe sane uses 
the AVision backend for this scanner
However, the scan output from Xsane is a black rectangle - the 
scanner moves, makes the usual noises but is unable to deliver a 
scan. Occassionally in the preview screen I can see some more dark 
colours in the black rectangle but nothing else.
The scanner works with VueScan software which I recently 
downloaded. But I would like to be able to use XSane
Is there any work around for the above problem?
