I have MandrakeLinux 9.2.

For the past month or so I have had great difficulty trying to find out why
Xsane would only recognise 'Super User' and not 'Normal User'.

I have made sure on each occasion I have re-installed 9.2 that there is only
one installation of Sane. I have then installed/upgraded (Sane Backends
1.0.12-5mdk) - also used the version on the Distro's CDs - and then Xsane and
also tried it the other way around. But each time I get the message 'No Device
found' when using 'Normal User' - yet when I use 'Super User' - bang... in
comes Xsane and I am also then able to use Gimp.

Via the Konsole I am only able to get any sense out of the scanner by using the
commands scanimage -L or -T and xsane by using 'Super User'. When I try to get
the same answers with 'Normal User' - I am told that there is no device.

All I am wanting to achieve for the installation via DrakeScanner to load in
what I require and then for me to use the scanner. When I use 'Super User'
Xsane keeps telling me not to use 'Super User' as it is dangerous.

Has anyone any solution - I know this same situation exists with other users as
the author of Xsane has gone to some lengths to explain things with is various
readme files. There has to be a solution surely ......

Is it that Sane loads wrong file permissions?

Please help me out of this hole I seem to have gotten into.

Thanks

Kimbo
