I hve a Nikon Coolscan 4000. It works beautifully. They
also make a lower-res CS-IV that might do what you need
it to.
The Nikon equipment works in part because the manufacturer
released the specs (and the backend developer did a nice
job with them). So far as I know, Minolta has not been as
helpful, and the quality of their product with Sane has
suffered for it.
