-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 ok, it took me a couple of hours to get an HP scanjet 5t (scsi) working onmandrake 9.0.
the problem, as it turned out, was that the users could not access the device because "no permission to access the device". for anyone that has this problem, the solution is to add your user(s) to the cdwriter group as a supplimentary group (this can be done easily enough in linuxconf). this method also seems to work for other scanner brands as well that are detected by the sane-find-scanner tool as root, but wouldn't let an ordinary user access the device (as other than root). the HP device is actually on a scsi-2 High Density connector attached to an adaptec 2940U on a system that contains: 1 GB ram, 900 Mhz AMD Athelon CPU, built in SiS630 Video subsystem, Soundblaster Live audio and am HP 8000 Cdwriter+. I did get the device working for all users (as detailed above). anything that would make this simpler I'm game for. comments? suggestions?
