I think your wrong; see Table 4.8 (SANE standard 1): "The setting of an option may affect the /*value*/ or /*availability*/ of one or more other options." There were at least a few people who asked about this on the list (/me included), and the answers were always different :-) Therefore I agree with Henning, that a better explanation is needed.
