Forgot to say that dynamic loading works. Frontends compile, but I have trouble testing them because the X11-over-ssh tunnel doesn't work right now. As of SunOS 5.7 on UltraSPARC (SMP), gcc 2.95.2, dynamic linking is problematic: gcc -c -g -O2 -W -Wall -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I../include -I../include -D_GNU_SOURCE "-DPATH_SANE_CONFIG_DIR=~/POOL/etc/sane.d" "-DPATH_SANE_DATA_DIR=~/POOL/share" -DV_MAJOR=1 -DV_MINOR=0 -DSTUBS -DBACKEND_NAME=abaton abaton-s.c -fPIC -DPIC -o abaton-s.lo libtool: link: only absolute run-paths are allowed make[1]: *** [libsane-abaton.la] Error 1 It does warn during ./configure that there is a problem with gcc version < 3.0. I haven't played any further with it, I might do when I have some more time.
