Normally the Redhat package manager should take care of this unless you compile SANE yourself. Did you upgrade from an earlier Redhat distribution? Did you compile sane yourself at one point? Run "scanimage --version" and compare the backend and frontend version. If they don't match there's still a problem with your installation. In this case I recommend to - uninstall sane - manually delete /usr/lib/sane, /etc/sane.d, /usr/local/etc/sane.d and /usr/local/lib/sane - reinstall sane > [snapscan] add_device: error opening device /dev/usb/scanner0: > Invalid argument Do you have write permissions on /dev/usb/scanner0? Maybe you have to change the access rights on the device node or add your user to a specific group to access the scanner.
