SUCCESS at last.
I have finally (after six months of attempts) managed to scan an image on
the MaxiScan A4 Flatbed scanner.
The secret? In the scan dialog box of Gimp, there is a checkbox marked
"Quality calibration" and it is checked ON by default. I unchecked the box
and WOWEEE the scanner worked. With the check box on and using DEBUG... I
got/get an "I/O Error" message from the scanner.
My configuration is now,
CPU AMD 333Mhz K6
OS Linux 2.4.3 (Mandrake 8.0)
Scanner MaxiScan A4 (identified as Color FlatbedScanner_9
SCSI I/F Tekram DC-315U
I had to recompile the kernel to get it to accept the DC-315 device.
Maybe the above will help all other frustrated MaxiScan A4 users!
