I suggest the following timetable for sane-1.0.6: 8.th october: backend freeze from this date it is not allowed to add new backends to the CVS of SANE. Changing existing backends is allowed.
15.th october: feature freeze from this date it is not allowed to add new features to the CVS of SANE.
