I modified the /etc/profile, still nothing even after rebooting. If I change the path as superuser, the sane-find-scanner and scanimage work. If I go out of su then back in, have to issue the path statement again to get it to work. This is a little ridiculous.
If I sane-find-scanner as user, it can't find it, says might want to do this as root, then may need to set scanner permissions. How do you do that? Think Konsole uses bash as everything else with bash works with it. Did not edit /etc/profile as it says not to, to add profile.local. Which OS? Did you try /etc/profile (as sysadmin) or .profile?
