Hmm good point, one of my APs which is still a router is running the WW-DRT software.. it' s basically a Linux based firmware with a ton of information that could be checked. http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/index newer Buffalo routers are using the software as their factory firmware now.

I guess you would need a wireless NIC in the SA box to verify the SSID is broadcasting, available, proper encryption key, etc.. otherwise I don't think there is much you can do to monitor an AP.
