SA is very good at operational alerts, and I’ve run it across many
lifetimes in my IT career.

Logging and reporting changes is a different matter though. Take a look at the
Virtual Machine Change Reporting tools from Netwrix (www.netwrix.com
(http://www.netwrix.com)) – sends a daily virtual machine inventory and
configuration report. We run several of their tools to report on changes to
Group Policy, Changes within AD and changes within Exchange. Very nice
suite for “who changed what, and when?”.

Want to know if something is up and running? I’ll always recommend
ServersAlive. When you look at the feature/price ration, nothing beats it.
Change tracking? Netwrix has some good stuff.

Subject: [SA-list] new check type request

We have a situation where the team that provisions and maintains our virtual
servers will decide to change the number of processors, disk space, or RAM
without informing us. I’ve been working on a script to retrieve these
parameters so I can check for them using Servers Alive, but it would be better
if Servers Alive could perform these checks natively (and using stored
credentials).

What is the possibility of such checks being made? I could see this a
potentially made more generic as a WMI check.

Thank you,

Brett Hanson
