The dev tool we're using has an option to check if there is an instance of the
app itself already running and that is what we use.

Ok before anybody says a word about it I know it is unsupported. Which is why
I have not had any support questions for the past 18 months.....until now.
This seems simple but I am not sure where to start looking. When I try to
launch Servers Alive (as an application of course wince it server 2008) it
gives me an error saying you can have only one instance of servers alive
running. Which seems self explanatory however there are no serversalive.exe
in the process list. The service is disabled (when run as a service it uses
the 8.3 name and I checked that there were non running).

Dirk can you perhaps shed light on how Servers Alive determines if it is
running. I cannot see it in task manager or using a third party utility or
with pslist.
