What do you mean by "not all versions can do this"? Not really sure
about Win 2000 since do not manage such servers for the long time but
all 2003+ do support connection to null session. Either with /console or
/admin switch (depends on RDP version) ...

If you use RDP you need to connect to the console session and not all
versions can do this.

Why not rdp?

Just connect to the console session and your good to go.

Hi Ian,

Again, apologies for the late response to this thread.

If you suggest NOT running VNC on the servers hosting SA, what do you
suggest using as a remote access client?

For example, I am in Arizona and my SA server (standard version 6.2.2279
running on Win2k3SP2) is located in New York.

Many thanks,

Paul-

Tim,

10 mins sounds like a very long time for a check cycle. Are you running
VNC on the SA server? (Suggest you don't as it has a dramatic effect on
performance.) Is your SA GUI set to update the interface during the
check cycle in Setup - General - Interface Settings? (Again, strongly
suggest you don't as this will *hugely* impact speed - turning this off
took our check cycle down from about 8 mins to about 1.)

Cheers,

Ian

At the moment, webpages are created right at the end of the check cycle.
Could an option be added to recreate the page if a check on it changes?
Our check cycle takes 10 mins or so and we have a custom web page
showing what it up and down. That page can therefore be 10 mins out of
date.

We get the emails of course, but management like to look at the web page
