You may want to set up dependencies to avoid getting too many alerts. I
mentioned this only because you mentioned you were new to Salive. You may
want to set up a ping which alerts if the server is down and then if the server
is up do a *nix process check (additonal download) to look for the ftp server
process, then finally the tcp ftp check to find out if the ftp server service
is responding
+Ping FTPSERVER
+*nix process check (ftp process)
+TCP protocol (FTP) check

Thanks for answering Jason but most of ftp servers I want to check are running
in Unix and in mainframes as well...

Also you may want to check if the service itself is running first. This you
would do by creating an NT service check.

The TCP-FTP check of Servers Alive will check if the first response of the FTP
server is correct or not. It will however NOT perform a login/logout or file
transfert. If you want to do a login and/or file-transfert you will need to
create a COM check for it.

Subject: [SA-list] ftp question
Hi all,
I'm new to Servers Alive usage and I was looking for a way to validate if
the ftp service is up in a remote server. Is it possible with Servers Alive? I
didnt find a way...
Regards,
Daniel
