To be fair though M$ do (Event logs, Exchange logs etc.), I can understand 
wanting the choice.  If every piece of software retained its logs forever I 
would end up simply having sceduled tasks to clean them up as I run a strict 
backup regime so I have copies anyhow. 
 
It wouldn't need to be a default setting.

Personally I have a problem with that. 

I don't think that a software should delete its own log files.

Would it be possible to limit (in the same way that you can in MS ISA server) 
the number of log files that exist? i.e. if set to daily log files and a max of 
30, SA would delete any log files over a month old.
