The easiest way is to simply allow connections from SA server ip:
Navigate Exchange Manager to the exchange server > Expand > Protocols > SMTP >
default SMTP Virtual Server (depends on what you have configured to handle
address space default is * which is everything > properties > Access >
connection > add the SA server IP to the list
You only need to also change the relay setup if SA is sending to another mail
domain for which this exchange server is not authoritative e.g. listed in the
reciepient policies as a defualt address space.

Sorry, being vague these days is coming natural. J
Our existing environment has two mail servers. One is a POP/SMTP box that
we’re dumping. We’re moving to the Exchange system. All users
have been migrated to the Exchange box and all of their mail is forwarded to
the exchange domain. Shortly, I’ll switch the mx record to reflect the
exchange IP.
Since all of our SA alerts were using the SMTP box at the hosting provider, I
need to ensure that it interacts well with Exchange prior to dumping
anything/everything on the SMTP box.
I think I’ll need to ensure that the existing Exchange box allows me to
authenticate using the ServersAlive mail account and send it through Exchange.
In theory, I know what I want to do, just have to implement it.

Have you configured the smtp virtual server to access messages from the ip
address of your SA server. You may need to enable relaying as well from that
machine depending on what mail domain address you are sending to. Problem is a
little vague.
When you mentioned Outlook on the box I really hope you don't mean on your
exchange box??? This is a very bad idea as Outlook messes with your mapi
environment and the share dll files. Microsoft cite this as a very big no
no...

Anyone using MS Exchange 2003 to send your e-mail alerts? I’m having
issues getting it to send directly through our E2k3 box without having Outlook
on the system sending the alert.
