Actually, I think you're not using it correctly. The message and target handle are supposed to be passed in on the command line. Like such:
c:\perl\bin\perl.exe c:\progra~1\salive\saaim.pl my_target_handle "Here is my message" >From SA you might embed vars as such: c:\perl\bin\perl.exe c:\progra~1\salive\saaim.pl my_target_handle "ALERT: %h is %s."
