Fitch Ratings : Malaysia at "A-" outlook stable
Fitch Ratings on Thursday affirmed Malaysia's sovereign ratings outlook to 'stable'. Long-term foreign currency Issuer Default Rating (IDR) affirmed at 'A-' long-term local currency IDR at 'A'. Feasibility Malaysian sovereign backed by a track record of macroeconomic stability in the domestic and external finances strong, says Andrew Colquhoun, head of the Lord of Asia-Pacific at Fitch. But economists noted that structural weaknesses in public finances as well as over dependence on oil-related revenues remain largely unresolved. External finance is a key rating strength. Furthermore, triggering a positive assessment of priorities including fiscal consolidation, which resulted in a sustained reduction in the ratio of government debt, coupled with measures to strengthen the fiscal revenue base and reduce energy dependence. In addition, large capital inflows as well as regional experience in Malaysia has produced a large increase in foreign holdings of government debt (short-term and long term). Ownership is now equivalent to 46% of foreign exchange reserves, up from 25% before the global financial crisis.
