The recommended binaries for macOS, namely https://github.com/3-manifolds/Sage_macOS/releases are known to work fine on M1, though using Rosetta emulation for Sage 9.4. An M1-native version should be available for the upcoming SageMath 9.5, and a prerelease version has been posted at the above, though it has some known issues.
