This was precisely the problem. I removed the library, reinstalled the (newer) uninstalled version, according to Yast2 and the build want smoothly forward from this point.
I have NO idea where that libqd came from. Originally, I removed it and building Sage failed, because it looked for the library during linking, but realizing it was necessary then I reinstalled the newer version.
