For other readers, I should point out that the following command does give 
a correct, if hard to parse, answer:

solve(abs(5*x-6) >= 3*x+2,x)

[[x == 4],
 [x == (1/2)],
 [x == (-2/3)],
 [(-2/3) < x, x < (1/2)],
 [4 < x], 

 [x < (-2/3)]]
