See http://sourceforge.net/p/maxima/bugs/2520/ and http://trac.sagemath.org/ticket/17511 . Unfortunately it's hard not to throw out the baby with the bathwater, see http://trac.sagemath.org/ticket/12731 for discussion. But maybe this baby isn't really a baby at all but just a bug :(
